[Ebook reader of The Mystery of Marie Roget]The Mystery of Marie Roget is a short story by the American writer Edgar Allan Poe, published in three parts in November 1842, December 1842 and February 1843 in the Ladies Companion and translated into French by Charles Baudelaire for the collection Grotesque and serious stories. The full name of the short story is The Mystery of Marie Roget, following on from Double Assassination in the Rue Morgue: the link between the two short stories is due to the character of Auguste Dupin who leads the investigation into a case which exceeds the capacities of the police.The Mystery of Marie Roget investigation is based on the real case of the murder of Mary Cecilia Rogers which occurred in New York in 1841. In the story, the action is transposed to Paris instead of New York, and the Seine replaces the Hudson River where the body of Mary Rogers was found. Edgar Allan Poe plays between fiction and reality on several levels: his fictional character Auguste Dupin tries to glimpse the truth of the affair based only on real press clippings, but the real names of the newspapers are disguised. As with Double Assassination in the Rue Morgue, the story is narrated by a friend of Dupin whose identity remains unknown...(Audiobook)
